A Return Journey to the Origins

He “I Campus for Spanish Adoptive Families in China” was a special camp organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and the China Overseas Exchange Association. This event was held in Beijing in 2015 and brought together adoptive families from different countries with the aim of strengthening the bond of adopted children with their culture of origin.

Since its beginning in 2004, This camp has welcomed more than 450 families and 1.150 participants, offering a unique opportunity to reconnect with history, Chinese culture and traditions.

This camp allowed adopted children and their families to rediscover their origins in a nurturing and welcoming environment.. Through cultural visits, workshops and meetings with local students, Participants were able to immerse themselves in Chinese history and customs, strengthening your identity and sense of belonging.

Destination and participants

The event took place in Beijing, China, and had the participation of 150 people from the US, Canada, Australia, Netherlands and Spain. The Spanish delegation, organized by the AKUNA Spain Foundation, She was accompanied by Sonia (Aiguang Yuan), who guided the group throughout the experience.

Duration and accommodation

The camp lasted 6 days and 5 nights, and the participants stayed at the luxurious Nikko New Century Beijing Hotel 5*.

Cost and subsidies

The Chinese Government subsidized the accommodation, the food, internal transportation and all scheduled activities. Families only had to cover:

  • International plane ticket
  • Targeted
  • Registration fee
  • Transfers between the airport and the hotel

Program and activities

The camp was full of cultural and recreational activities designed to provide an unforgettable experience to participants. Some of the most notable were:

9 July

  • Opening ceremony and exchange of gifts between countries
  • Visit to the Imperial Palace and Tiananmen Square
  • Tour of the National Theater of China
  • Dinner with traditional Peking Duck
  • Paseo por WangFuJing, the famous pedestrian shopping street

10 July

  • Visit to Hua Sheng Tian Qiao Folk Culture City
  • Folk culture show
  • Traditional crafts workshop
  • Performance at the Academy of Traditional Chinese Opera
  • Chinese acrobatics show

11 July

  • Excursion to the Great Wall (Ju Yong Guan)
  • Visit to the Summer Palace
  • Night tour of Beijing National Stadium and National Aquatics Center

12 July

  • Meeting at the Hai Dian Training College Experimental School
  • Gift exchange between adoptive families and Chinese families
  • Farewell ceremony

A trip that transformed us

This camp was not only a physical trip to China, but also an emotional and cultural journey. We take with us unforgettable memories, bonds of friendship and a new understanding of our roots.
